Friday was a pain. Hold on...Yes I dropped what I was doing so I can finally get started on my push ups...yes I did just crawl out of bed like an hour ago. I had a relapse and didn't much feel like doing anything today. Slap me in the face and get me out of that bullshit. Okay that, $2.00 Vodka cranberries and an intense Dodgeball discussion is never a good mix in my defense...
Friday I decided to do day three as I am weak in the wide grip and I used four as a training set...may be the way to go for at least another week. Close grip and overhand is cake when using four as a training set but wide grip...
Monday I opened up with three sets of 40 push ups and that did a fine job of kicking my ass. Today I can barely hack thirty and I am "listening to my body" before I pound it with Insanity's "Pure Cardio" in a bit. Believe it or not INSANITY involves push ups too. Ugh. Pray for me.
I've successfully completed Week 1 of Insanity (again) and I am glad to see others joining in and honestly, I think I am addicted to it. I can sit and watch infomercials on it all day and be excited that I get to do it.
My shipment of Advocare came in. Sweetness. I am loving the meal replacement shakes and when it my Herbal Cleanse gets here...well I'll just have something else to write about.
Friday: 12
Monday: I missed pull ups last night. :( Bad Steve.

Almost there...
Woke up. Did push ups.
Peed and brushed my teeth. Did push ups.
Caught up on emails. Did push ups.
35 is killing me right now...how I don't know. I finished the last set with 40. If I am feeling masochistic I may try and do max effort on all three sets tomorrow now that the 40 push up barrier is achieved. I really spent a week doing 20? Geez...
Insanity's "Recovery" day was nice, until the lunges, pulses and holding the damn lunges for so long. Still dripping in sweat.
No run today. Too tired and I don't want to injure myself so I am pushing that till tomorrow morning or evening.
Had the rest of my day.
Came home, did pull ups via the training set day. Instead of 2 reps per "training set" I upped it to 4 per training set.
I did 9 training sets. I was liberal with the "60 second" time increments in between. Wonder if that affected me much. I'll be more strict next week. Right now I am just loving doing pull ups.
Total Pull Ups of the Day: 36
Hell yeah.

Somewhat Easy Day...
Opened today's routine with three sets of 35 push ups. Might try doing Max effort on one of them tomorrow however 35 push ups is an ass kicker and sadly, one more reason for me not wanting to get out of bed lol.
Today's Insanity Day was "Pure Cardio" the most evil of the evil workouts and I did my best to hack my way through out. I can take the "warm up" without stopping but came damn close. Am supposed to be on the brink of death during the stretching??? I had to sit out of a lot of the one minute exercises or jump in at the 30 second mark because damn they kick your ass. Pure Cardio was always the day I dreaded most and I am glad I can put that behind and "recover" tomorrow with Recover Day.
Gotta run tomorrow, do the pull up thing and I'll be golden if I am able to go to Open Dodgeball in Phoenix, which I would like very much to do to try and take my mind off of things.
Today's Pull Up Day required one "training set" of normal grip, close grip and wide grip pull ups. Last time I deemed my training sets to be two and after I realized how easy that was, upped them to four and had no troubles until the wide grip came. I think I may be able to make my training sets stick with five but we'll see how tomorrow goes. Man...five pull ups can be my "training sets" a fourth of my goal just for practice.
Me gusta.
I got about three hours of sleep last night. When the day comes for me to sleep for a solid eight hours I will be unstoppable.

Ow...
Opened up yesterday morning with 3 sets of 35 push up reps and am breaking a sweat and wanting to die after the third set of 35...good or bad I dunno. I know max effort I can get at +60 but that's it. I don't have much left after that however that may be my issue. I think "must conserve energy for the next two sets" and I think I am missing the point entirely. I believe I will steadily increase until I reach 40/50 by the end of the week and then come Monday I won't be so intimidated when I break 50 on my first rep and actually just keep going until I max out all three sets.
I was very sore from Pull Ups' max effort day so take note that Monday is a day of pain ha ha. I did Insanity's Cardio Power and Resistance and had to sit through a few of the exercises. That kicked my ass big time. It may fall on the lack of sleep or poor nutrition. I've virtually wiped out Carbs for now (more toward ignorance) and have been eating chicken breast, vegetables and fruit along with the Meal Replacement Shake but all things considered, I need to find better fuel for my body.
I ran three miles in 28:01 which is still incredibly shitty and I felt like I was getting faster. I will say running in circles is tough. Tough to stay focused, tough to keep track of which lap I'm on but all in all the endurance is there. Hopefully tomorrow's run (where the test is actually conducted) will breed better results as its just one lap around a park.
Watched Forgetting Sarah Marshall for the first time (how appropriate huh?) and then finished the night with Pyramid Pull Up day and got to six. Tried seven and died at four then after a break finished with four more totaling

29 pull ups.
I am not trying to kill myself more than condition my body for some crazy hardship down the road. Right now I feel fine but this was technically supposed to be last nights entry. Tonight's will be interesting.

Back to Work
After enjoying the weekend opened up with the usual push up routine. Started with 30 then pushed to 35 and then 35. May up it to 35 for all three tomorrow.
Did Insanity and started over with Day 2 (didn't feel like doing Day 1's Fit Test...which I should have done) with intent to run later but something came up and I couldn't squeeze out a run before Dodgeball. Wanted to see if my body could handle the impact of all three/four exercises throughout the day because where I plan on going, that will be an every day occurrence.
Pull Up Program was actually initiated at Day 1 this time which I am excited to see a full week's worth completed this go around. I had to do five maximum effort sets with a brief minute and a half rest in between (maybe a few seconds more...again, my worst enemy is this whole "maximum effort concept" and something I need to really push toward breaking instead of convincing myself I am tired) and I started with...9 then 6, then 3 then 3 then 4.
On a "how did I do 9 when I did 12 not so long ago" note, I was weakened from Insanity as it had me working my upper body a bit a few hours prior to Dodgeball and after Dodgeball I just felt exhausted. If it can be helped, I'll complete the pull up portion of the program just before I go to bed when I ought to be just wiped out from everything.
On a brighter note, ordered some meal replacement shakes (which I love), some more spark and more slam to encourage a steady, uninterrupted supply. Need to really ensure that I am eating enough to continue to fuel this machine that I am fine tuning and rebuilding of course.
Me gusta.
Now to attempt sleep...I got maybe an hour last night. :(

Today Blew Somewhat
Laid in bed for about an hour dreading the oncoming day until I pried myself out and hit the push ups. Did three sets of 30 reps a piece and I think I'll finish the week with that tomorrow.
My run time sucked balls but that was due in part to running around the park versus the track, the sun and some cramping. I don't even want to post my time of like 30 minutes or so. I did walk a lot in my own defense. I either drank too much water, or too little. Either way, I am going to have my bad days and the most important thing is I was out there.
For the Pull Up program today was training set day. You are supposed to do as many training sets as possible. Beginning with two per set I got to my ninth set in which case you are to increase one pull repetition per set and I did so after my ninth. 10-15 sets were at three pull ups each totaling for a whopping 33 pull ups. I could have done a few more but am worried of straining myself. Week 1 means I gauge where I am at.
The push up routine is supposed to minimize soreness and help strengthen the shoulder back area and I think its doing both those things. We'll see come tomorrow.

Can't Break Down Because of Breakup.
Oh the shit is getting worse for her and I. There's another dude in the picture. After almost six years I am ditched the night of to be with this clown. Wow.
Didn't stop me from continuing with the program. I've got motivation to keep on it so I can get the hell out of here, make something of myself and rub it in both their faces...or at least not care to once I am there. I prefer the later.
I attempted "training set day" in which one does three training sets normal grip, three close grip (palms outward) and three wide grip. A training set is defined as the amount of successful repetitions one can handle and I selected two assuming three would be too difficult to complete come wide grip time and it was easy...come wide grip time. Next week I'll do three training sets, may boost to four. I really need to IMPROVE not get by.
Speaking of, I started this morning with three sets of 25 push ups...it didn't kill me. The broken heart did. I'll do 30 reps per set tomorrow.
And I am not sore from running those three miles. :) I just may get to running, armstrong pull up programmin' and doing Insanity all in the same day...without dying.
Thank you Shaun T for bringing this wonderful machine back on course. I will see you in Month 2 soon.

And Here We Go
My girlfriend of almost six years and I broke up on Sunday. We had a rocky week and a weekend in which I found myself at fault for many of our problems and although I was and am willing to fix them, ultimately she decided that it was necessary for her to go out and find herself. I love her to death, want nothing but her happiness...even if that has nothing to do with me in the end.
Sucks balls and as you can imagine and this is not the blog to talk about how that is going to mess with me for well the rest of my life and blah blah blah so I'll get back to the point.
I didn't work out much, slept all through Monday and woke up just in time for Open Gym. Basically...I missed Day 1 of the Armstrong Pull Up Program. The workout states that if you miss a day, you miss a day.
I opened up with 2 sets of 20 push ups with the 3rd set consisting of 25 reps (I really need to start knocking out more). Day 2 consisted of Pyramid Pull Ups in which I got up to 6, crapped out at 4 and then finished with 2 more pull ups...and I think that is exactly what I did on Friday. I did notice less rocking and I wonder if I owe that in part to Insanity as my core is a lot stronger.
Speaking of, my run time was 28:19 which although is quite terrible, I maintained a steady and strong pace without getting too tired or feeling like I was breaking down. It was smooth and I had energy left to continue going and even pick up the pace a bit. Not bad after a three to four week hiatus. It will be interesting to see how much I can improve come May 1st but we'll see and soon...
...too bad I couldn't leave my damn feelings on the track.

Begins with the End...
So thanks to my newest acquisition: a pull up tower, I can begin the Armstrong Pull Up Program and hopefully get my pull ups to at least 15-20 by April 1st. Since this is Friday I am beginning on Day 5 in hopes to recover this weekend and start fresh and ready come Monday for running, Insanity, morning push up routine and this.
Day 5 is supposed to be a choice between the previous days that were the most difficult for you. I selected pyramids so that I can get a solid set of pull ups going. You start with one, then do two, then three up until you crap out and then you give it one last strong finish.
I stopped at 6 (made it to 4) so I made it to 5 and ended with 4 pull ups as my finish totaling 23 pull ups in about a five minute period. So I know that 20 pull ups feels like so far...somewhat.

Week 5 Continued...
So despite drinking heavily last night and this morning (which is really about eight beers now) I managed to pull myself together and complete another day in Week 5 of Insanity. Everything just hurts.
I did pretty good at Dodgeball last night in Phoenix and was glad that people took notice of my throwing harder. I feel great (after Insanity of course.) I hit the ground rather hard last night and swore I dislocated my knee, broke my leg or something because I felt like I was about to black out and felt similar to how one feels when they incur a serious injury and the rush of a pain is moments away.
However nothing happened. Just a bruise here or there and I was golden. Weird.
I purchased a pull up tower as well and I am excited to finally get on the Armstrong pull up program. I need to get as close to 20 pull ups as possible in about three weeks...
Still haven't gone on a run yet but that will change next week for sure.

Well Shit
So I hit the snooze button on my Insanity routine. Ironically, I got about three other people on it, two of which are from my unit and must have seen the changes and or read enough about it on my Facebook updates that they wanted to give it a shot. Let's see how they do.
I went to San Diego to participate in a Dodgeball tournament and more importantly, see my roommate graduate from Marine Recruit training and mission accomplished, I am more motivated to striving for OCS. Sadly, in the two months I've had before my PFT I can only say I've done month one of Insanity. Yeah, no small feat by any means and something most can't do, but the Marines wants sick recruits that can at a minimum run three miles in about 24 minutes or less, do 20 pull ups and 100 crunches...I am not there yet and have about three weeks left before I can even show promise of getting there.
By the end of the day I hope to acquire a pull up tower as I cannot rely on my doorframe unit...we don't have any in the house. We have one, but it goes into Chris' room and that's not only in evasion of privacy but we have different schedules. Plus the door frame doesn't look that strong. I need to get running again and since I skipped a week...yes...a week of doing nothing, well half a week I need to repeat Week 5's Recovery Week.
Three days of "Recovery" and the last two days of the Armstrong Pullup program combined with at least two days of running will be the jump start I need to get my ass in gear.
To think I had two months and now all of a sudden there is no time left...
